Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Outdoor/Adventure Education.

287.

asked the Minister for Education the additional steps she proposes to take during the current year to facilitate the development of outdoor education and adventure education in schools.

My Department are at present providing funding, from the proceeds of the national lottery, to the following outdoor education centres: Cappanalea, Kinsale, Burren, Petersburgh, Birr, Gartan, Shielbeggan, Achill.

The function of these vocational education committee centres is to make outdoor education and wide-ranging leisure opportunities, such as walking, climbing, canoeing, sailing, orienteering etc., available to the country's school-going population.

The facilities, programmes, etc. provided at these centres have been brought to the attention of school authorities and youth organisations throughout the country.
