Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pupil Selection.

308.

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her policy on pupil selection for admission to individual second level schools on grounds of ability.

The eligibility of pupils in general for entry to second level schools is governed by regulations, but my Department do not have statutory power of control over the admission of individual pupils to a particular secondary school. My Department would, however, deprecate selection on the basis of academic ability.
