Written Answers. - Primary Curriculum Review Body.

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the composition of the primary curriculum review body; the way in which it has advanced on its work programme; if any interim reports have been received from it; its relationship with other official bodies concerned with curriculum matters; and when she expects a final report from it.

The Primary Curriculum Review Body is chaired by Ms. Moya Quinlan and comprises, in addition to the chairperson, four nominees representing the Irish National Teachers' Organisation; three nominees representing primary school management; one nominee representing the National Parents' Council (Primary Tier); one nominee representing the joint management body of secondary schools; one nominee representing the Irish Vocational Education Association; one nominee representing the Association of Secondary Teachers (Ireland); one nominee representing the Teachers' Union of Ireland and three nominees of the Minister.

Two Divisional inspectors of the Department act as advisers.

The review body submitted a brief progress report to the Minister in November 1988. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, as part of its brief, oversees the work of the Primary Curriculum Review Body.

It is expected the review body will submit their report early in 1990.

The Primary Education Review Body was established in February 1988.

In addition to its Chairman (Dr. Thomas Murphy), the review body comprises: six nominees representing the Irish National Teachers' Organisation; four nominees representing primary school management; two nominees of the National Parents' Council (Primary) Tier); one nominee representing the colleges of education; one nominee representing the Association of Secondary Teachers (Ireland); one nominee representing the Teachers Union of Ireland one nominee representing the Primary Curriculum Review Body; two nominees representing the Department of Education and two nominees of the Minister.

It is expected the review body will submit their report early in 1990.
