Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computer Facilities in Post Primary Schools.

364.

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the results of the programme of supplying micro-computer facilities to post primary schools; if these computers have been satisfactory; and if they have led to a very substantial increase in the awareness of computers by those participating in the educational system.

Under the schemes of grant assistance for the provision of computer equipment in second-level schools, operated by my Department in 1981 and 1986, every second-level school in the State either received a new micro-computer system or else obtained enhancements to their existing facilities to bring them up to the level of a full system. These computers have operated satisfactorily and have had a positive impact on the education system by increasing awareness of computers among learners and teachers.
