Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computerisation of Examinations.

370.

asked the Minister for Education if she will indicate the savings for the Exchequer, if any, that have arisen from the computerisation of examinations.

There have been no direct financial savings to date as a result of the introduction of computerisation. The savings in 1989 are of an indirect nature. Because of the introduction of computerisation staff are free to complete other work in relation to examinations which they would otherwise be unable to do.

It is expected that there will be significant financial savings, particularly in relation to overtime costs, in the years ahead.
