Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Allegations of Corrupt Practices.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he was first made aware of allegations of corruption in regard to planning applications in the Dublin area, which are currently under inquiry by the Garda; the manner in which these allegations were made known to him; the action he took as a result of these claims; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

64.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the comprehensive and repeated reports of substantial irregularities in the operation of planning legislation at local authority and national level which are now a cause of great public concern; if he will outline the steps that he has taken since their publication; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

176.

asked the Minister for the Environment the action, if any, he has taken in respect of the recently reported allegations of corrupt practices in the operations of our planning laws in some local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 34, 64 and 176 together.

In view of the continuing Garda inquiries, the fact that certain relevant matters are at present before the courts and the independent role of the DPP, I am legally advised that it would be inappropriate for me to make any comment at this stage on this matter.
