Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin County Householders' Service Pipes.

60.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will take steps to put an end to the anomalous and inequitable situation whereby householders in Dublin County are held responsible for the maintenance and repair of the service pipe to the boundary of their property; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under existing legislation, a sanitary authority is responsible for the provision and maintenance of sewer and water mains whereas householders are responsible for the service pipes connecting their premises to these mains. I am aware that this situation may cause difficulties for householders and the legislation is under review to determine what action may be appropriate in the circumstances.
