Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Meath Handicapped Areas Designation.

108.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the areas in County Meath which have been included in the less severly handicapped areas in the review which took place in 1985/1986; the areas which applied for inclusion under the current review; the areas in County Meath which are for submission to Brussels; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The areas in County Meath which were included in the less severely handicapped areas in 1985 were as follows — the entire district electoral divisions of Ardagh, Moybologue and Trohanny, the townlands of Boynabought, Aghaloaghan, Ballynahirgan, Carrickleck, Cordooey, Cornacarrow, Ervey, Lislea, Raloaghan, Corrakeeran and Boynagh in Carrickleck DED, the townlands of Aghamore, Ardmaghbreague, Ballymakane, Boherlea, Cornacally, Corrananagh, Moorlagh, Newtown, Shancor, Towas, Tullyweel and Edengora in Kilmainham DED, the townlands of Coolnahinch, Diralagh, Drumaneber, Druminiskin, Newcastle, Quigelagh, Skearke, Tullyaran, Tullyattin, Tullypoole and Ughtyneill in Newcastle DED, the townland of College in Nobber DED, the townlands of Cloghnagoo, Cregg and Posseckstown in Posseckstown DED, and the townlands of Ballyhoe, Ballymacolgan, Drumgill, Drumgill Lower, Drumgill Upper, Druminshin, Drumsillagh, Kellystown, Largy, Mullaghmore, Roosky, Summerhill Lower, Summerhill Upper, Sallybrook, Killaddon and Kilriffin in Drumcondra DED.

As some 554 townlands in County Meath applied to be surveyed and were surveyed during the course of the recent nationwide examination of areas for designation as disadvantaged or reclassification, it would take more time and effort than is justified to list each of these townlands and the DED in which it is situated in reply to the second part of the Deputy's question. If, however, he wishes to ask a more specific question in order to ascertain whether any particular townland has been surveyed, I shall be happy to reply to such a specific question.

The results of the recent survey are being computer-processed by my Department at present so it is too early to say which areas will be submitted to the EC — in any event it has never been the practice to indicate such areas until after EC approval for their designation or reclassification.
