Vol. 394 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment Incentive Scheme.

39.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of people assisted through the employment incentive scheme this year; the total funds under the scheme provided in the 1990 Estimates; and the total funds provided in 1987 and 1988.

Between January 1989 and 27 October 1989, 2,887 people started on the employment incentive scheme operated by FÁS, 27 October 1989 is the latest date for which figures are available.

An amount of £5.764 million has been included in the 1990 Estimates. This will provide for about 3,500 participants. This sum also provides for the increases in the grants to employers recently announced by me. The corresponding Exchequer amounts for 1987 and 1988 were£1.750 million and £1.370 million, respectively.
