Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Industrial Development.

130.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the report submitted by the Mayfield Enterprise Initiative on integrated planning for the Mayfield area, Cork.

On 11 October 1989, at the request of the Mayfield Enterprise Initiative, I had the pleasure of launching the "Planning Study on Integrated Development for the Mayfield Area". The study provides a detailed examination of the socio-economic situation in Mayfield and puts forward an integrated planning framework for the area. The preparation of the study is a fine example of how local communities can, through their own efforts, help lay the groundwork for the economic and social development of their locality.

I have asked the Industrial Development Authority, who have statutory responsibility for the development of industry, to take account of the study with regard to future industrial development in the Cork area. The broader planning issues dealt with in the study do not come within the responsibility of my Department.
