Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Programme.

169.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons who were placed in employment, were offered employment or obtained employment themselves as a result of the national Jobsearch programme during the years 1987 and 1988.

Of those referred for job vacancies under the National Jobsearch Programme, 4,239 were placed in employment in 1987 following interview by the National Manpower Service which was incorporated in the new agency FÁS as from 1 January 1988. The corresponding figure for 1988 was 6,266. Some would have secured employment themselves following participation in a Jobsearch course. While no firm figures are available it is estimated that some 380 come into this category for 1987 and some 420 for 1988.
