Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Alleviation of Flooding.

187.

asked the Minister for the Environment if there is a contingency fund available for the alleviation of flooding; if he intends to establish such a fund; and whether he will provide some of the money for Percival Street and Watergate Street, Kanturk, County Cork in view of a recurring history of flooding.

Works to alleviate flooding in urban areas may, in appropriate cases, be included in the design of sanitary services schemes and financed through the sanitary services capital programme.

Works in the areas referred to by the Deputy are included in the Kanturk sewerage scheme for which contract documents are under consideration in the Department. In view of the existing level of commitments on the sanitary services programme and the amount of capital available, it is not possible to indicate when the scheme may be allowed to go to tender and construction.
