asked the Minister for Education the total number of island (a) primary and (b) post-primary schools; and the staff and enrolment of each school.
Written Answers. - Island Schools.
Primary: (a) There are 14 primary island schools with pupils enrolled in the 1989-90 school year. (b) The information requested by the Deputy in relation to these schools is shown in the following table.
Post-Primary: There is one secondary island school with an enrolment of 16 and one vocational school with an enrolment of 51. The staffing level of the secondary school (provisional recognition to 31 July 1990) is two teachers plus 1,200 part-time hours. It is not, however, possible from my Department's records to state the staffing of the vocational school as teacher allocations are made on a global basis to the vocational education committee and not in respect of individual schools.
