Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

275.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will make a statement with regard to the principal matters discussed and decided upon in relation to road safety at the meeting of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) on 22 November 1989; if the ECMT have discussed, within the last year or two, the introduction of mandatory testing of used cars; and, if so, the general policy of the ECMT with regard to such testing.

There were two road safety items on the agenda of the meeting of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) on 22 and 23 NOvember 1989, viz., a report and draft resolution on advertising that conflicts with safety aims and a simplified report for the information of Ministers on trends in road accidents in 1988. The draft resolution on advertising that conflicts with safety aims was adopted at the meeting.

The question of the introduction of mandatory testing of used cars has not been discussed by the ECMT in recent years.
