Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Publication of Report.

28.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of publishing his Department's report for 1987/88; the number of copies published; the name of the printer; and if the contract for printing was awarded by a tendering system.

My Department's report for 1987 and 1988 summarises the main developments which took place in the social welfare area in those two years. It provides a valuable reference for people with an interest in social security matters. The total cost of publishing the report was £9,064.43, including £1,188.82 in respect of VAT. This includes the cost of revising the design and content of the report in line with my policy of updating and improving the quality of information issuing from my Department. This element of the cost is once-off.

A total of 2,150 copies were printed by the Brunswick Press Ltd. This firm currently has the contract from the Government Supplies Agency for this particular category of printing. The contract was awarded to them in May, 1989 following a public competition.
