Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork New Labour Exchange.

44.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when the new labour exchange in Cork will open; the areas to be covered by it; the total number expected to sign on there each week; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Construction work on the new social welfare services local office for my Department in Cork is due to finish at the beginning of June 1990. The building will then be fitted out for occupation and it is expected that it will open for business in July 1990.

The new office will serve some 13,500 unemployed applicants who reside in the Cork city area and the two offices in George's Quay and Washington Street at which they previously signed will be closed.

All the advantages of modern technology and privacy features will be incorporated in the design of the new building in keeping with my programme to improve the quality of all the offices of my Department.
