Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funds for Firkin Crane Development.

54.

asked the Taoiseach if there are any funds available for the Firkin Crane Development from the arts and culture section of his Department.

A grant of £100,000 from the Funds of Suitors was allocated for this project and paid over in 1985/86. In 1987, I allocated a grant of £130,000 from the 1987 proceeds of the national lottery, towards the cost of completing phase I of this project. This grant was paid to the Irish National Ballet Trust on 17 December, 1987.

My Department successfully negotiated with the European Commission a grant of £551,000 for the project from the European Regional Development Fund. This grant will be paid when the complete financing package to complete phase II of the project has been put in place by the Trust.

There are no further funds at the disposal of my Department for such projects, the funding of which would now be a matter for the Arts Council to consider.
