Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Refunds.

71.

asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Meath will be granted a normal tax free allowance and will receive refunds of tax over-deducted since he took up employment with Meath County Council in August 1989.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a certificate of tax free allowance for the current year 1989-90 will be issued to the taxpayer within the next week. Any tax which was overdeducted from his earnings since 28 August 1989, the date of commencement of employment, will be refunded to him by his employer when that certificate is put into operation.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason arrears of tax have not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the details necessary to review the taxpayer's liability to tax for the year 1988-89 were submitted to the inspector of taxes on 10 November 1989. The review revealed an overpayment of £21.74. A cheque in settlement will be issued to the taxpayer within the next week.
