Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Live Aid Record VAT Refund.

76.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make all necessary arrangements to ensure a refund of all VAT to be paid on the remake of the Live Aid record, the funds from which will go to the famine victims of Ethiopia, having regard to the fact that this record goes on sale in Ireland on Monday, 11 December 1989.

As I announced at the weekend, I am making arrangements to contribute to relief of famine in Ethiopia an amount equal to all the VAT collected on the sales of the Band Aid record.

This amount will be up to double that given by the previous Government under the refund arrangements which operated on the last occasion of the Band Aid effort, assuming an equivalent level of sales.
