Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fishing Licence Application.

100.

asked the Minister for the Marine if a person (details supplied) in County Cork will obtain a fishing licence if he purchases a boat; and the registered tonnage required in order for him to secure a licence.

The person concerned should in the first instance make an application for a licence to my Department. Such a licence is necessary before a boat can lawfully engage in fishing activity. All applicants are advised that the Minister may grant or refuse an application and that they should not enter into any financial commitment prior to a licence being granted.

At the moment consideration of all applications for licences, and this would equally apply to any application from the person concerned in this case, has been deferred pending the report of the Sea Fishing Licensing Review Group. This group have been established by me to review sea fishing boat licensing policy.

All applications on hand will be considered in the light of the results of this review.
