Vol. 394 No. 4

Written Answers. - Establishment of New Disadvantaged Areas.

104.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if townlands will be split in the establishment of new disadvantaged areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Townlands are the smallest administrative units in respect of which survey data in connection with the current review of our disadvantaged areas can be compiled and, for that reason, it is not proposed to consider parts of townlands for designation purposes.

While in the eastern part of Ireland, flockowners with mountain sheep grazing areas comprising parts of townlands can qualify for payment of sheep headage grants nevertheless, the entire townland remains as the basis for designation.
