In December 1988 I approved an increase of two and three quarters hours per day in broadcasting hours for the Cork service. However, in the context of the development of independent sound broadcasting services any future expansion of this service will be dependent on RTE being able to clearly demonstrate that the service can stand alone without support from the main RTE organisation and be financially viable.
