Vol. 394 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driver Tester Recruitment.

111.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the inordinate waiting periods for driving tests at present, he will recruit extra driving testers to help expedite driving tests appointments.

At present, there are 51 driver testers throughout the country. This includes four staff who were recently redeployed to driver testing duties.

I have made arrangements to recruit further testers to bring the permanent corps up to 60 and additional temporary testers on a contract basis in order to reduce the waiting periods for tests to an acceptable level. Details of an open recruitment competition will be announced before Christmas.
