Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Travel and Subsistence Rates.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

111 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence if meal and travel allowances are payable to civilians employed by his Department; if such allowances are taken into account in the determination of pension entitlements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Where civilian employees are required to travel in the course of their employment with this Department, travel and subsistence rates are payable in accordance with the normal public service arrangements. In addition, certain civilian employees who are employed within the catchment area of the Dublin Working Rule Agreement of the Construction Industry Federation (i.e. City of Dublin, Administrative County of Dublin and the Urban District of Bray) receive travel time payments in accordance with the terms of that Agreement.

A meal allowance is payable to certain civilian employees who are employed throughout the country.

Travel time and meal allowances are not reckonable for pension purposes.
