Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sub-Regional Areas Committees.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

156 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance when he proposes to re-establish the working parties and the consultative committees for the seven sub-regional areas of the country established within the framework of EC regional policy and Ireland's application for Structural Funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Community Support Framework which governs disbursements from the EC Structural Funds to the end of 1993 — and which has been agreed between the Government and the EC Commission — provides that the sub-regional advisory and working groups be merged to form sub-regional review committees. These sub-regional review committees will receive and consider, in respect of the various operational programmes, regular progress reports detailing progress to date and measures proposed in, or significantly affecting, the sub-region concerned.

It is envisaged that the sub-regional review committees will be convened following the approval of the operational programmes by the EC Commission.
