Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Animal Feed Regulations.

Phil Hogan

Question:

182 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of prosecutions made by his Department under the regulations that pertain to constituents of animal feed as outlined on the bag; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since 1 January 1989 two manufacturers of compound feedingstuffs have been prosecuted for breaches of the European Communities (Marketing of Feedingstuffs) Regulations, 1984.

It has been the policy of my Department to seek to persuade firms who are found to be manufacturing feedingstuffs outside the stipulated tolerance to implement corrective action. Prosecution has been taken only as a last resort.
