Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Potato Tonnage.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

194 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the tonnage of potatoes which have been imported for each month since 1 July 1989; the name of the importer; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The tonnage of imported potatoes from 1 July 1989 is as follows:

July

5,742

August

4,269

September

1,891

October

2,500

November

*3,800

December

*3,800

Source: Central Statistics Office.
*Departmental Estimates.
The increased level of imports in 1989 is attributable to a reduction in the area under potatoes. However this situation also gave rise to favourable producer prices.
It would be inappropriate for me to supply the names of importers.
