Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Jim Higgins

Question:

247 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in processing the supplementary claim of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo for unemployment assistance.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed in May 1987 on the basis that the rate of means assessed against him exceeded the maximum rate payable in his case. Since then his means have been reviewed a number of times and on each occasion the means assessed against him have exceeded the maximum rate payable in his case.

He made his latest request for a review of the means assessed against him on 11 November 1989. Following a fresh investigation of his circumstances a deciding officer decided that by failing to disclose full details of his means, the applicant failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit for receipt of a qualification certificate from that date. Accordingly he is not entitled to payment of unemployment assistance from that date.

A form to enable him to appeal against this decision has been issued to him.
