Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Insurance Records.

John Bruton

Question:

248 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare when action will be taken in respect of the employer of a person (details supplied) in County Meath who was properly employed and for whom social insurance should have been paid, but was not; and when this person will have his insurance records properly re-established, in order that he can continue to claim disability benefit.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit from 23 November 1988 to 24 November 1989. Payment was suspended from 25 November 1989 as he had an insufficient insurance record in the tax year 1987/88 to qualify him for continued disability benefit. However, following further investigation, his insurance records for 1987/88 and 1988/89 have now been amended and payment of benefit has been restored.

A cheque for £272.10 has been issued to the person concerned, being the amount of arrears of disability benefit due from 25 November 1989 to 26 January 1990, less £126 refunded to the North Eastern Health Board in respect of supplementary welfare allowance paid to him during this period.
