Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Investigations by Gardaí.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

297 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Justice if Garda officers in plain clothes are obliged to disclose their identity on entering a house to carry out an investigation into a crime.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that Garda internal instructions provide that, when the nature of the duty permits, a member of the Force on duty in plain clothes will disclose his identity and produce his identification card to any person who is affected by, or properly concerned with, the duty.
