Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Louth Reconstruction Work.

Michael Bell

Question:

311 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to complete the reconstruction work at Cox's Demesne, Dundalk, County Louth; the reason work on the houses and the number of houses designated have been reduced; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Dundalk Urban District Council cannot sell the majority of the houses under tenant purchase until reconstruction in completed; if the houses will be sold on tenant purchase subject to the work being carried out after sale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The planning and execution of remedial works to their dwellings is a matter for local authorities. Approval issued last August to the council's proposal for the acceptance of a tender in respect of 70 houses in this estate where over the last three years a sum of £730,000 has been provided by the Department. The allocations in respect of the remedial works scheme for 1990 will be notified to local authorities shortly. The sale of the houses under the 1988 tenant purchase scheme is a matter for the local authority.
