Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Michael Noonan

Question:

353 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for the Environment the total cost to local authorities in respect of each county and county borough arising from repairs to local authority houses in each of the last five years; the amount of rental revenue received by each county and county borough in each of the said years; and the extent to which the cost of maintenance in each year was subsidised by the Exchequer.

The information in relation to the receipts and expenditure on the management and maintenance of local authority housing is being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible. As these functions are the responsibility of individual housing authorities, their cost is not directly subsidised by the Exchequer, apart from the general rates support grant, and must be met from rental income, the revenue portion of the proceeds of tenant purchase schemes, which is normally 40 per cent, and the revenue resources of the authorities themselves.
