Eamon Gilmore

Question:

356 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of planning compensation paid by local authorities since 1963.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 355 and 356 together.

The total amount of claims for planning compensation at the end of 1987, the last year for which published data is available, was £10,228,500. It is understood, however, that at the end of 1989 claims against Dublin County Council, which account for almost all such claims, amounted to £13,507,500.

The total amount of planning compensation paid by planning authorities in the years 1982 to 1987, the period for which published data is available, was £90,571. Payments during 1988 and 1989 by Dublin County Council and Dún Laoghaire Corporation amounted to £2,021,917.
