Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Representations on Orthodontic Treatment.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

376 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health the reason Deputy Gay Mitchell has not received a reply to representations dated October 1989 on behalf of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who is in need of orthodontic treatment; if he will ensure that a reply issues; and if he will ensure that treatment is given without further delay.

I have made full inquiries in my office and have been unable to trace the correspondence referred to by the Deputy. However, I have made inquiries of the health board and it has been confirmed that the person concerned has been awaiting orthodontic treatment since May 1988. However, the health board is not yet in a position to grant her an appointment. The Deputy will be aware that the Government made additional funds available at the end of 1989 to bring about an improvement in the waiting times for orthodontic services and I am currently examining the possibility of providing further funds for the same purpose.
