Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ashbourne (Meath) Secondary School Project.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

402 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that approximately 1,000 children leave Ashbourne, County Meath every day for secondary schools in Dublin because there is no secondary school in Ashbourne; if there are proposals to build a secondary school in order that the children can attend a school in their own area; when this school will be built; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have met the local parents' committee regarding this matter on a number of occasions to discuss the further development of the project.

The new community school is being planned and architectural planning is proceeding.

The rate of progress of this and other such projects is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.
