Question:408 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education if she has any plans to allocate finances to Meath Vocational Education Committee to enable them to appoint a literacy officer for the county.

My Department allocate finances to County Meath VEC in connection with their adult literacy and community education schemes. I was able last year to approve the filling of an adult education organiser vacancy in the county. The adult education organiser plays a key role in organising the committee's literacy programmes.
