Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - West Waterford Second Level Education.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

409 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has for the provision of second level education in west Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In 1987 I decided that a community school should be established in Lismore, County Waterford amalgamating the Christian Brothers School, Presentation Secondary School, Lismore and St. Anne's Secondary School, Cappoquin. I also decided that the proposed community school should be developed around the existing Christian Brothers School, Lismore. The architectural planning of this project is now in progress.

The question of the possible rationalisation of post-primary facilities in Dungarvan post-primary centre is under consideration in my Department but no decision on the matter has as yet been taken.

The above measures will ensure that second-level education needs in west Waterford are adequately addressed.
