Tomás MacGiolla

Question:

417 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for national lottery funding from a club (details supplied) in County Donegal to provide a football pitch at Ballyaar, Ramelton, County Donegal; if it is intended to provide funds; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 410, 412 and 417 together.

As outlined by the Minister for Finance on the 24 October 1989 in his reply to Questions Nos. 26, 48 and 55 the Government decided to amalgamate the capital grants scheme operated by my Department with the amenity grants scheme operated by the Department of the Environment into a single scheme.

Under the new arrangments, the Minister for the Environment will allocate grants to projects recommended by local authorities, which will also be responsible for the processing of all applications under the new scheme.

Applications which were received by my Department under the capital grants scheme, including the applications submitted by the clubs referred to by the Deputies, have been forwarded to the local authorities for processing under the new arrangements.
