Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Bandon (Cork) New Primary School.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

411 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the provision of a new boys' primary school in Bandon, County Cork; whether she appreciates the urgent need to provide same; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is intended to accommodate the boys of St. Patrick's and St. Fintan's national schools, Bandon, County Cork, in the convent secondary school when this building becomes available. At a recent meeting with the Chairman of St. Fintan's Boys' National School, Bandon, and parent representatives, I informed them of the situation and that, in the circumstances, the provision of a new boys' national school is no longer being considered by my Department's Primary Buildings Branch.

My Department sanctioned grants in July 1989 in respect of improvements at both schools in order to ameliorate conditions at the schools.
