Question:

421 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the total average cost to the taxpayer, per student, of each student, in constant money terms, in (a) primary schools, (b) second-level schools, (c) third-level institutions in (i) 1960, (ii) 1970, (iii) 1980 and (iv) the latest year for which figures are available.

The estimated amounts of State expenditure (excluding capital expenditure) on a per capita basis, at constant 1989 prices, for the years in question are as follows:
