Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cuan Mhuire Assessment Centre.

John Bruton

Question:

428 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she will give the current composition of the board of management of Cuan Mhuire Assessment Centre; if there are any vacancies on the board; if so, the length of time these vacancies have existed; and if she will outline the responsibilities of the board.

The current composition of the board of management of Cuan Mhuire Remand and Assessment Centre is the chairman and four other nominees of the Minister for Education, together with one representative of each of the following: the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, the Department of Education, the Department of Justice and the Department of Health. The current vacancies on the board are the Archbishop's representative — since September 1989 — and one of the Minister's nominees — since January 1988. The board of management is charged with the general government of the school, including its financial management within approved budgetary limitations, the appointment and removal of staff (subject to the approval of the Minister for Education) maintaining the school premises, furniture and equipment and generally conducting all necessary correspondence arising from these matters.
