Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Examination Results Comparisons.

John Bruton

Question:

435 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the basis on which the Central Applications Office recognises and draws comparison between the Leaving Certificate and the results of equivalent examinations taken in other countries; and the way in which it satisfies itself that these results are genuinely equivalent in every aspect, for points purposes.

The function of the Central Applications Office is to accept and to process applications for entry to undergraduate courses on behalf of the third-level institutions participating in the CAO system.

The CAO has no function in assessing the relative value of results of examinations taken in Ireland and in other countries.
