Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Junior Certificate Course in Technology.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

458 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the number of schools selected for the new junior certificate course in technology; and the criteria for their selection.

To ensure the orderly implementation and monitoring of the technology programme during its developmental phase, approval has been confined to 62 post-primary schools in 1989-90. It is intended that further schools will be approved to commence the course in 1990-91 and subsequent school years.

A range of factors are taken into account in selecting schools for this programme. These include the school's experience and resources, geographical spread and a balance of boys and girls schools.
