Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Carrier's Licence Application.

Michael Creed

Question:

464 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the reason an application for a carrier's licence made in February 1989 by a person (details supplied) in County Cork has not been granted; and the reason for the delay in issuing same.

The Deputy may be aware that a backlog exists at present in the issue of Road Freight Carriers' Licences. This is a result of a large increase in the volume of applications being received by my Department following the liberalisation of the market brought about by the Road Transport Act, 1986.

I regret that the applicant to whom you refer had to wait so long for his licence. However, I am pleased to say that this application has now been approved and that he should receive his carrier's licence in the next few days.
