Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - CIE Retirement Benefits Scheme.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

471 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will outline his plans to grant his approval of the revised trust deeds in respect of the CIE pension scheme-additional voluntary contributions which Irish Life plc. and CIE have agreed and for which his signature is required.

CIE have already been advised that I have no objections to their execution of the proposed trust deed in relation to the retirement benefits scheme referred to in the Deputy's question. To facilitate the early implementation of the scheme, I have also conveyed my approval to the company for the operation of the provisions of the scheme on an administrative basis, in the interim, pending the submission of the necessary draft statutory documentation for examination and confirmation. I understand that CIE are at present awaiting confirmation from Irish Life Trustee Services Limited of final approval from the Revenue Commissioners and that any other outstanding matters have been agreed with the trade unions concerned.
