Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Public Health Nursing Service Staffing.

Pearse Wyse

Question:

54 Mr. Wyse asked the Minister for Health if additional resources will be made available to the Southern Health Board to increase the staffing levels in the public health nursing service.

The 1990 allocation of £143 million to the Southern Health Board represents an increase of 7.8 per cent over the original 1989 provision. The board recently voted to accept the allocation and will be meeting in the coming weeks to discuss a detailed budget for the year. The Deputy will appreciate that the detailed apportionment of the allocation among the various programmes is a matter for the board. In regard specifically to the public health nursing service there has been an increase in the number of public health nurses working in the Southern Health Board area since March 1987.
