Question:93 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for Health if he has received any reports of increased suicide rates among patients and former patients of psychiatric hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Suicide Rates.
Deaths from causes other than natural cause among patients in psychiatric hospitals are notified to my Department. The notifications of such deaths which have been received in the Department do not indicate any significant increase in suicides among these patients. My Department do not receive information with regard to the incidence of suicides among former patients.
