Question:

105 Mr. Barry asked the Taoiseach the names of the public relations or consultancy companies employed by his Department in 1989; and the fees paid to each of them.

The attached schedule sets out the information requested by the Deputy in regard to the public relations or consultancy companies employed by my Departments in 1989; and the fees paid to them.

SCHEDULE

1. ESRI

£15,000

This is payment for “Europen” sectoral studies on three sectors: Electronic, Electrical and Instrument Engineering, Metals and Mechanical Engineering and Distribution. The first two of these have been published and that on Distribution is being finalised.

2. Jim Fitzpatrick and Associates

£15,000

This was full payment in respect of the published “Europen” sectoral study on the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear sector, dealing with the implications of the Single European Market for this sector.

3. National Food Centre

£15,000

This was payment in respect of the published “Europen” sectoral study on the Food and Drink sector. This has been published.

4. Indecon

£30,000

This was payment for two “Europen” sectoralstudies, one on Tourism and one on Financial Services. These studies are currently being finalised, taking account of the most up-to-date position in the EC in regard to the approximation of indirect taxation.

5. Coopers and Lybrand

£13,000

This was payment for a “Europen” sectoral study on the Phrmaceuticals, Healthcare and Chemicals sector. This is now with the printers and should be published in a week's time.

6. Wilson Hartnell PR Ltd.

£84.56

This payment relates to work as a consultant in July-December, 1988, in connecton with the “Europen” awareness campaign.

7. Helme/CA & M

£161.50

This relates to artwork for the Europen logo and slogan.

8. Irish Marketing Surveys Ltd.

£18,250

This payment was in respect of an extensive market survey, included in the 1989 programme for the “Europen” campaign, the results of which have been widely published.

9. Davy, Kelleher McCarthy Ltd.

£17,500

This was payment for the published “Europen” sector study of the Construction industry.

10. Corporate Graphics Ltd.

£1,562.50

This payment was in respect of artwork and design for leaflets in connection with a series of conferences organised by the Department of the Environment and the Construction Federation of Ireland on the implications of the Single European Market for the construction industry.

11. Financial and Corporate Communications Ltd.

£12,170

Consultancy work at the Press Centre in Dublin Castle in connection with the Presidency of the European Community.

12. CSO

No fees

James Martin Associates (Ireland Ltd.)

paid in 1989

This relates to consultants who were engaged to assist in the evaluation of a computer-aided software engineering tool as a productivity aid to systems development.

13. Roinn na Gaeltachta Campaign Advertising and Marketing Ltd.
