Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - TB Reactors.

Enda Kenny

Question:

23 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give an assurance that no animal slaughtered in Irish meat plants as a TB reactor under his Department's supervision is subsequently sold to the consumer market as ordinary and non-TB beef; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bovine TB reactors are slaughtered at meat export plants where the Department have permanent veterinary supervision. Beef passed as fit for human consumption following detailed and stringent ante and post mortem veterinary inspection may be sold on the home market. No further conditions apply to the sale of such meat.
