Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Direct Income Aids.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

37 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if, in view of the fact that the Council of Ministers and the European Commission have published the regulations governing direct income aid to farmers, he intends introducing a scheme to provide for direct income aids in Ireland as 70 per cent of the funding will be provided by the EC and the scheme is applicable to all parts of the country.

The EC Commission regulation laying down the detailed rules for the application of the system of transitional aids to agricultural income was not adopted until December 1989. The implications of introducing such a scheme is under consideration in my Department.
